The Kareri Lake trail winds through thick subtropical pine trees. The woodlands are densely forested, with chir and chilgoza pines scattered among the broad-leaf species. They also support a large density of birds, which is plainly seen because of the low canopies. The woodlands give way to stony grasslands along the lake-fed Nyund nallah in the later portion of the trek, which acts as both a guide and a pleasant companion. Pines and plants dot the woodland floor. The lake is glacial and located near the snowline. All of these factors combine to make the change between vegetation zones with height obvious on this path.
