Manali, a Himalayan gift to the world, is a lovely hamlet located in the scenic Beas River valley. It is a rural enclave famed for its cold environment and snow-capped mountains, providing travellers with a relief from the blazing heat of the lowlands.
Manali is the name of Manu's home. According to Hindu mythology, the seventh incarnation of Manu discovered a little fish while bathing. The fish informed Maun that if he looked after it, the fish would return the favour someday. Manu, the seventh incarnation, cared for the fish until it was large enough to be released into the sea. Before being abandoned in the water, the fish told Manu about the impending floods that would drown the entire globe and requested that he construct a seaworthy ark. Floods occurred, and the fish (Matsya) took Lord Vishnu's form and saved Manu and the Seven Sages. Since then, the area has been known as Manali.
