Valley of Flowers National Park is located in Joshimath, Garhwal Himalayas, Uttarakhand, India, and is an unusually attractive high-altitude Himalayan valley. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is worldwide recognised for its extensive alpine flora (including many medicinal plant species), exceptional biodiversity, and breathtaking natural beauty.
Since ancient times, this unspoiled terrain has been known in India as 'Nandan Kanan.' Frank S. Smythe, a British climber, happened upon it while returning from the Kamet expedition. He christened it 'Valley of Flowers' after being awestruck by its immaculate beauty and blossoming fields of alpine flowers.
