When you enter the grounds, the black polished stone on the right greets you with a picture of Mahatma Gandhi, followed by a map and some information about the Ashram. An attractive porch on the left-hand side leads to the Museum, the Library, and the Exhibition Room, and this is where practically every visitor begins his tour of Sabarmati Ashram.
The Museum and Library at Sabarmati Ashram are later additions designed by architect Charles Correa, who used brick piers, stone floors, and red tiled roofs to blend in with the rest of the Ashram. 

On the porch's right side, a big entrance opens with the sign 'Begin your tour from here;' A photo gallery called Gandhi in Ahmedabad leads to a large hall with images, models, and information on Mahatma Gandhi's time in Ahmedabad. It featured a figurative model of the well-known Dandi March, which he started while living in this Ashram. With photographs and explanations, one may have a full understanding of Gandhiji's existence in the city.

The Sabarmati Ashram is involved in a number of activities that serves to both preserve the history of Mahatma Gandhi and the freedom struggle. Sabarmati Kochrab Ashram was Mahatma Gandhi's residence from 1917 to 1930.  Take a walk and listen to the intriguing tales from the life of Mahatma.
